Proposed laws on Migrant labour and industrial action

Posted by:

Immigration Bill
The aim of this bill is to prevent illegal working, crack down on the exploitation of low-skilled migrant workers, and reduce net migration. On illegal working, employers are to be informed when employees’ visas expire, so they will have no defence if they continue to employ such individuals and could face a penalty of up to £20,000.

Trade Unions Bill
This bill will include requirements for:
A minimum 50 per cent turnout for strike ballots,
Backing from 40 per cent of trade union members eligible to vote for public sector strikes affecting health, transport, fire services or education
Time limits on how long a mandate to strike will last following a ballot.
